FIVE STARS AND FEATHERS FOR
JULIE LEGRAND AND THE CAST OF GYPSY AS IT TRANSFERS TO THE WEST END

 Last night,
Scott Marshall Partners attended a star-packed press night for Stephen
Sondheim’s phenomenal Gypsy,
starring Imelda Staunton as Momma Rose and
our own Julie Legrand in a “notable double” of the stripper Electra
and Mrs Cratchitt.

 Repeating
its success at Chichester Festival Theatre last year and receiving more rave
reviews across the board, Gypsy is
based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee- an American burlesque
entertainer and show-biz mother from hell. Constantly choreographing routines for daughter Baby June to showcase her talents, Momma Rose is as desperate for her kids, and the children she takes
in as part of her act, to hit the big time as she is for them to stay young.
There is no doubt that Gypsy is the musical of the moment
and this production certainly lives up its reputation as the greatest
Broadway musical ever produced.

Julie Legrand scores a notable double as a camp, primly
disapproving producer’s secretary and as a particularly washed-out stripper who
still lights up at the push of a button.” Michael Coveney, WHAT’S ON STAGE,
*****

Julie Legrand’s deathly,
thin-lipped, and pin-curled Miss Cratchitt, a real match for Rose… Le Grand’s hilariously
ditzy, dipsomaniac, Electra. Moments of ecstasy in a sea of perfection.” Stephen Collins, BRITISH THEATRE, *****

“Providing
the luridly colored icing on the ensemble cake, Anita Louise Combe, Louise
Gold and Julie Legrand are delicious as the troika of
seasoned pros in the house of burlesque.” Leslie Felperin, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

‘A
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity… Go” Dominic Cavendish, THE TELEGRAPH, *****

Gypsy runs at the Savoy Theatre
until 28th November
