SOPHIE
DRAKE (Director)

Sophie is a theatre director and dramaturg based in London, focusing on putting women and their stories centre-stage.

She has recently directed Victoria – A Queen Unbound, and Charley’s Aunt for the Watermill Theatre, both to critical acclaim.

In 2024, she won the Best Director Stage Debut award for The Bleeding Tree at Southwark Playhouse, a production which received fantastic reviews and five Off-West End nominations, including Best Director.

Sophie is currently Associate Director on Matthew Xia’s production of Feeling Afraid As If Something Is Going To Happen which she will be guiding into the Studio Theatre in Washington in early June and before this was the Revival Director for the tour of Rupert Goold’s Hamlet for the RSC.

Sophie works as a dramaturg on a freelance basis for large scale producers, producing companies and independent artists, vigorously enhancing thematic and narrative coherence, and developing scripts from nascent stages through to polished performances.
