DICK
STRAKER (Video Designer)

Dick’s background has always been as a video and projection designer and his experience and knowledge pre dates the now ubiquitous digital technology. From an initial degree in Fine Art combined with photographic and mixed media installations, and post graduate study in graphic design, Dick produced projection designs for many seminal fashion shows, commercial events and architectural projection events and formed the company ‘Mesmer’. This has functioned as a company of associate video creatives with common interests in visual and performance based activities. From film set work to visual art events Dick’s range of experience has extended over huge technological advances whilst still being grounded in traditional visual language.

Dick is involved in image production using still photography, video filming and illustration, post production editing and animation and the delivery of the content into the projection or display system. Dick’s particular interest is in designing projection that involves creating content for unusual spaces and contexts. Solving geometric optical problems and developing imagery to compliment unusual scenarios often in a collaborative production is what he most enjoys. The intention is for a strong and coherent visual aesthetic that may well be quirky, but balances the visual imperative with technical demands.
